136-138 This is another of the old buildings in the High Street and it has a
famous connection. Built in 1771, the widow of Captain Cook lived here from
1788 until her death in 1835. She had a hard life. By the age of 43 all five
of her children had died and her husband had been murdered in Hawaii. (If
