Pizza restaurant using open, real wood-burning oven for "authentic"
pizza flavour. Part of the Belgo chain with, allegedly, good reputation.
Wine sold in half botles and you only pay for what you drink.

Pretty much a
typical Belgo branch apart from its emphasis on the bar area and more
toned down decor. They serve from earthy bang & mush, steak and
fries to various fish courses. One of the main attractions with Belgo
is of course the blinding selection of Belgian beers. Strawberry,
herbs and many more palate-challenging flavours.
The stars of the show food-wise remain the asparagus dishes, since
the mussel pots they very much pride themselves with can be a bit
hit and miss even at best of times. The freshness of the ingredients,
which are vital for seafood, is in question. It is a weakness often
shown in chained restaurants. And Belgo unfortunately is no exception.
But if nothing else, at least the bar staff are in leather. Well,
leather apron that is. (£20-25 two courses with a glass of
wine, per head) Review
from Fan Oct 2001
Good, if predictable,
food, and variable service. If you go in a group, you may even find
you are restricted to a very limited set menu (too complicated for
them otherwise, apparently). Much better at lunchtimes, though.
And their mussels are great... Review

This place, again, attracts mixed reviews. Modern fusion style (both
décor and food), and prices slightly more than you'd expect, given
the good (but not excellent) quality.

For some reason
not as high profiled as the late Moxons but no less exquisite in
quality. It is French style seafood at its best. With ultra fresh
ingredients and the earthy yet sophisticated cooking style, the
whole menu is an orgy of freshness, richness and flavour.
The restaurant is roughly divided in three areas; the normal tables
for 2-4, a large shared table for larger parties and a separate
room for customers who book in advance (Where they actually serve
wine in proper glasses instead of tumblers. No extra charges) The
good old oysters and seafood stew are to die for.
Just bear in mind that they only accept cash. So make sure to stop
by a cash point before you go. (£25-30 two courses with a
glass of wine, per head.) Review

Everything you expect from a good Indian restaurant. Pickles, sauces,
a large selection of tasty curries.
They quite sensibly removed the rather brassy if not tacky front
door dcor exhibited till late last year, which you could quite
easily mistaken that you've stumbled into a red-light district in
Far East. It now is replaced with a more "minimalist"
display.
Friendly and helpful staff. You might even get a complimentary
port if you play your cards right. (£20-25 two courses with

Good old fashion
style with humble setting and friendly Italian staff. The menu is
fairly diverse comparing to ECO where they essentially specialised
in pizza.
It ranges from the staple pizza and pasta with various sauces to
many great seafood and chicken main courses. There's also an open
kitchen on the platform where you can see professional pizza chefs
at work. Desserts served from a trolley. Definitely recommend the
garlic bread and black olives as starters. They're absolutely heavenly...

Disappointing if
you are expecting anything exotic. But since it's Tax-Mex, it's pretty
much cheese, salsa on corn chips through and through. The food is
tasty enough but the one-dimensional menu makes you less likely to
go again. Review

This is a cavernous bar and restaurant that fills up quickly (and
has the alluring late licence). Standard Mexican stuff, but well done.
More atmospheric than a lot of these places can be.

Cosy and atmospheric
is the first impression. A stylish looking crowd (who would probably
dread to be spotted, dead or alive, in Goose and Granites and the
like). Candle light, incense accompany the comfortable seats and
big cushions.
The decor is revolving the Moroccan theme, the pricing is totally
West End however. A glass of wine would comfortably set you back
£5. (That is high even for Soho) But they do have an interesting
wine list with a few middle-eastern numbers. And over all it is
worthwhile if you're after a civilised night out with a bit of cruising
in mind but don't want to be in a complete meat market - need I
say more! Review
from Fan Oct 2001
This place got very mixed reviews when it opened. No expense was
spared in decorating it (even the loos have a Moroccan theme) -
and it actually does resemble a modern version
of a Moroccan restaurant (from memory of my own travels...) Some
good Moroccan dishes, excellent cocktails... Can get very crowded
with drinkers, which is a pain when you're trying to eat.

Haven't figured out whether the 'select your own ingredients', which
are then cooked by a chef (with maximum flames) is good fun, or a
gimmick. It does mean you have to queue several times, but can be
very tasty... Seems to work best for groups.

Highly over-rated. It is pretty much the Thai answer to Wagamama (a
westernised Japanese chain restaurant). They adapted the supposedly
trendy but dreadful canteen style where you have to cramp in tables
with uncomfortable seats next to total strangers. The atmosphere is
restless and unsettling. So it's more of an eat-and-go type of place.
The food, however, is thankfully not as ghastly as their Japanese
counterpart. It's more or less what you would expect what Thai food
in the UK would taste like, but nothing more. (£15-20 two courses
with a glass of wine, per head.) Review
from Fan Oct 2001
The best restaurant in the world, ever! Well, maybe not quite there.
But the food is top-notch, simple Thai stuff, and at takeaway prices.
Very atmospheric, big long benches, and an outside bit in the summer.
Be prepared to queue towards the end of the week.
